The main problem we had was a lack of hot water at the ablution block. It was possible to boil a kettle and have a hot bath in a bucket. Fortunately our phones were still operational and we could check for updates from Western Power. In any case, we came through the experience intact, perhaps a bit wiser.
Power Outage
Sunday's storm left the monatery without power for three days. The lights turned on just as we had decided to hire a generator to power the kitchen and septic system, However, as most of the monks realised, the monk's kutis were basically unaffected, having solar power for a lamp and a heater running off a gas cylinder.
