Neil's Ordination
On Thursday, 3rd January, Neil took novice ordination. He is now known as Samanera Mudu. A large crowd came to the monastery to witness his going forth including many family members. Welcome Mudu!
Christmas at the Monastery
Ajahn Sujato extended the saying, "Peace on earth and goodwill to all men" to "Peace to all the worlds in the universe and goodwill to every sentient being."
Welcome Rain
Bodhinyana was the recipient of a heavy downpour on Tuesday night. Our monks and residents spent Wednesday morning cleaning up, mostly on the fire breaks. A large amount of mud was washed down the hill and pooled at the intersection of Kingsbury Drive and South West Highway. The good news is that our rain water tanks are about 80% full. With frugal usage this should get us through until the next winter.
Two New Anagarikas
On the fifth of December Ajahn Brahm ordained two new anagarikas: Paul from Perth and Arne from Germany.
Kathina Day Celebrations
The Kathina ceremony marks the end of the annual ‘rains retreat’ for the resident monastic community. It is an opportunity for the Buddhist lay people to show their support for the monastery, in particular the offering of various requisites. The central part of this ceremony is the offering of the 'Kathina cloth’ from H.M. the King of Thailand. The Kathina ceremony is the most important Buddhist ceremony of the year to be held at the Jhana Grove Meditation Retreat Center.
Khow Pansar Donations
Thank you to everyone who came to the monastery on Sunday for the entry to the rains ceremony (Khow Pansar).
Cat Dukkha Over (Hopefully)
Due to Anagarika Tom's efforts, we have caught all the cats released in the monastery, including a litter of kittens and all have been desexed.
Bhikkhu Ordination
Last night, on the 26th July, we ordained three new Bhikkhus.
Impressions of the NBN
In April Jhana Grove joined the NBN Interim Satellite Service. Our monastery has no connection to the internet, so we work in the Jhana Grove offices when we need the internet for administrative services. We do not have huge demands - email, travel booking, software updates, etc - but our original 3G fixed wireless never worked properly.
Brendon's Ordination
On Wednesday 27th June Anagarika Brendon took novice ordination. He is now Samanera Sankappa. A small group of family and friends attended the ordination.
We are located at 216 Kingsbury Drive, Serpentine 6125, Serpentine, Western Australia
